According to Punxsutawney Phil, spring is less than six weeks away…which means motorcycle season is right around the corner! Before you take your motorcycle out of hibernation, make sure you have the proper insurance, registration, training and licensure. Train smart - ride smart with our helpful pre-season checklist.

Insurance

The State of Indiana requires motorcyclists to carry liability insurance. It’s important to ask your insurance agent about obtaining coverage for you and your motorcycle including comprehensive, collision, medical payments, uninsured driver and more. Keep in mind that insurance companies base their rates on:

  • Coverage location
  • Age
  • Driving history
  • Size and type of motorcycle

Registration

Before taking your motorcycle out on the road, you are required to register and obtain plates for your new ride. To register your motorcycle, visit your local BMV branch with your title or certificate of ownership from your financial institution.
