RP&L's current rates received IURC approval in 2005. As of July 2020, Richmond's electric rates ranked lowest among the 13 electric utilities the IURC regulates.

Electric utilities can also adjust rates due to changes in purchased power costs. Those costs can only be recovered on a dollar-for-dollar basis. They include OUCC review and IURC approval before taking effect.
