Part time Environmental Assistant Job Opportunity

The Posey County Health Department is looking to hire a part-time employee as an assistant to the current Environmental Specialist. We are looking for someone that would be able to work approximately 20 hours per week assisting the department in various areas of Environmental Health. The training required would be provided by the current Environmental Specialist who will help you get the training through the proper organizations.

Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

1) Assisting with food inspections within Posey County where needed

2) Septic inspections to make sure in compliance with state and local guidelines.

3) Environmental complaint investigations

4) Assistance with vector control including obtaining required licensing.

5) Work will take place both indoors and outdoors.

Education and requirements:

1) High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

2) Ability to walk across uneven terrain, stand/walk for extended periods of time.

3) Ability to bend, squat, and maneuver through and around obstacles.

Office Administrator Job Description

The Posey County Health Department is looking to hire an office administrator to join our team in promoting healthy lifestyles and behaviors, protect and prevent the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, and prepare for and respond to potential disasters to help maintain the best public health for our county. Your role will involve managing day-to-day office operations, coordinating administrative tasks between the different departments, and ensuring the office runs smoothly. Office Administrator Job Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Oversee the day-to-day functioning of the office, ensuring that administrative processes run smoothly along with a safe and clean working environment.
  • Provide support to staff and the health officer, including managing correspondence, preparing documents, applying for and managing grants, and scheduling meetings.
  • Manage communication channels within the office and other county departments.
  • Supervise office staff and support them in their role in the department.
  • Assist with managing data entry and other record-keeping tasks.
  • Oversee office supplies to ensure resources are available when needed.
  • Establish, review, and implement office policies and procedures with department staff to maintain order and efficiency and update policies when necessary.
  • Assist with budget preparation and track revenue, expenditures, and invoicing.
  • Mange needed office maintenance and repairs.
  • Report any concerns or needs of the department to the county health officer.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new employees.

Office Administrator Qualifications and Skills:

  • Keeps track of multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to provide excellent customer service.
  • Works well with others and can foster a positive work environment.
  • Completes tasks on time and can properly prioritize work.
  • Proficiency in using office software and database management.
  • Comfortable tracking office budgets, expenses, supplies, and managing grants.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and contributes to a collaborative office culture.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute office projects or events.

Education and Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Management experience in an office setting is preferred.
  • Experience in aspects of medical and/or environmental field preferred, not required.
