Clinton County Medical Reserve Corps

The Clinton County Medical Reserve Corps is a unit in Indiana that has been formed in 2005 from an ad-hoc volunteer reserve corps to assist the public health community. We have actively recruited medical and non-medical volunteers during that time with the idea of formalizing in the future. The creation recently, of a Citizens Corps Council in Clinton County, has opened the door for us to have an overarching support organization that touches the entire community. This unit continues to assist with major public health emergencies, natural and man-made and to help in non-emergency situations such as assisting with vaccination clinics, community disaster exercises, and public health education. Now we can expand our support and involve private industries as well.

State Collaboration

The Clinton County MRC is under the leadership of the Indiana MRC Network, in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health. The MRC is a national network of local groups of volunteers committed to improving the public health, emergency response, and resiliency of their communities. This national network is sponsored throughout the country by the Office of the US Surgeon General and is housed in the Division of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps.

Mission

Our mission to date is two-fold to provide surge capacity for large-scale emergencies and take the lead in educational campaigns needed for improving health and awareness in our community. Work hand in hand with Healthy Communities to engage volunteers in different community operations.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older
• Understand English
• No Medical Background Required

Expectations

• Complete all required MRC paperwork
• Obtain State of Indiana MRC Network ID badge
• Overview of FEMA IS-100 and IS-700 courses

How to get started

Please register as a member of the Indiana MRC Organization as a part of the Clinton County unit. Once your profile shows as 100% complete, and you are cleared by the MRC, you will be able to volunteer as a part of the Corps.

Already a Volunteer

You can view your SERVIN profile at any time. If you would like to volunteer with MRC but live outside of Tippecanoe County, please visit the National Office of the Civilian Volunteer’s website and search for the unit in your jurisdiction.

Basic Training

Already Completed FEMA Courses

Many workplaces, especially in the emergency response and healthcare field, require that employees complete the FEMA IS-100 and FEMA IS-700. If you have previously completed these courses, you do need to re-take them; you may upload your certificates to the SERV-IN profile.

If you have misplaced your certificates, you can retrieve them from FEMA by completing a Transcript Request Form (PDF) and faxing it directly to FEMA.

MRC Unit Highlight

H1N1 2009-2010 Pandemic Heroes

In 2009-2010 an H1N1 Pandemic took place in Clinton County. The Reserve Corps Volunteer Group along with other county citizens and organizations were able to devote their time and efforts to staff/support the many H1N1 vaccine clinics during that time of crisis (over 100 volunteers). The Medical Reserve Corps group is community-based and it is a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time to strengthen the Public Health Infrastructure and resources in case of an emergency as it did in 2009-2010.

Below are the individuals who stepped up and answered the call for the H1N1 Pandemic. These individuals were recognized by the MRC National initiative for their Heroic acts. Unfortunately, these Heroes did not receive their 2009-2010 H1N1 Hero Pin and appreciation letter. Even though, it has been about 9 years since this pandemic occurred it is nice to give credit where credit is due!

MRC Backpacks and Fanny Packs

The 40 Backpacks were filled in early August 2018 with First Aid supplies. Both the MRC Backpacks and Fanny Packs will come in handy when an emergency/incident presents itself in the community. This will allow community volunteers to deploy to the affected areas and help out Clinton County Citizens receive some assistance before the first responders get there. Volunteers will work in 3 teams each having a triage kit with them. Each team will have the needed supplies to do their best to provide some relief to individuals who are affected by any type of emergency incident. We are proud to say that our MRC Unit has deployable equipment and is prepared.
