Linking Veterans with the Utility Industry

On January 16, 2018, Governor Eric Holcomb and Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch launched the Next Level Veterans Initiative, aimed at bringing together public and private organizations to recruit, employ and connect discharging military personnel to Indiana and retain veterans who are already in the state. Governor Eric Holcomb said, "Bringing veterans from around the country here to fill high-wage, high-demand jobs is a win-win-win for military service men and women, employers, and our state's economy. Next Level Veterans will encourage partnerships around the state to bring our nation's skilled and talented veterans back home to our welcoming and vibrant Indiana communities."

Governor Holcomb encouraged both agency and non-agency partnerships in this effort. Following the announcement, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission launched this page as a resource for both veterans and military personnel looking for employment, as well as for utility companies with jobs to fill, to augment the Next Level Veterans Initiative.

“The Commission created this website to continue the conversation and to connect veterans and discharging military personnel with jobs in the utility industry here in Indiana. Our goal is to serve as a bridge between utilities looking to hire skilled employees and the people who have the experience to fill them. Connecting these two groups will help our veterans and discharging military personnel find their next career here in the Hoosier state, which is good news for Indiana.” - Commission Chairman Jim Huston

Veterans Forum

The Commission is hosting a forum regarding veteran employment in the state. The purpose of the forum is to connect veterans looking for jobs in Indiana, and those hiring in the utility industry across the state. The agenda for this forum can be found here, and the registration page for the forum can be found here.

I'm a Utility with Job Openings

In April 2018, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) issued a report from its Task Force on Military Workforce Development. The Report of the Task Force on Military Workforce Development: A 10-Step Guide can be a valuable resource for utility companies across the state; it houses information regarding the many benefits to hiring veterans and military personnel.

In the report, Virginia Chair and Task Force Chair Judith Jagdmann said, "NARUC has a long history of leadership around critical utility workforce issues and strongly supporting programs and training for veterans for a transition from military service to utility-related work. A skilled and knowledgeable workforce is critical to effective utility and regulatory functions, making the aging of the utility and regulatory workforce a serious issue.”
