William C. Hartley, Jr. has served as the elected prosecuting attorney for Wabash County since 2003. He graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a major in accounting. While in law school, he worked for a certified public accounting firm in Plymouth. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University and was admitted to practice law in the state of Indiana by the Indiana Supreme Court in 1996. After approximately two years in private practice, he returned to his hometown to become a prosecutor. He served as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Wabash County from 1998-2002.
Prosecutor Hartley served four years on active duty in the United States Army in infantry units at Fort Clayton, Panama, and the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, among other places. He is a graduate of the Army's Jungle Warfare, Air Assault, and Light Infantry Leader schools.
Hartley has coached various youth sports teams and also served as a Board Member for the Wabash County United Fund Board of Directors from 1998 through 2004, serving as its President in 2003. He served as a Board Member on the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council and on its Executive Committee as the chairman. He currently serves as a Board Member and President on the Association of Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys, Inc. He served on the Indiana Supreme Court's Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure from 2017-2022. He is a member of the Wabash County Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, and National District Attorneys Association.
