Current Air Toxics Monitoring Site Descriptions

IDEM evaluates areas in all regions of Indiana in order to site air quality monitors for Indiana’s air toxics monitoring network. IDEM generally locates outdoor ambient air toxics monitoring sites in urbanized areas where there is a greater likelihood for increased air toxics emissions from multiple sources including mobile sources such as motor vehicles; stationary industrial sources; small area sources such as auto refinishing shops and drycleaners; indoor sources such as cleaning compounds and chemicals; and natural sources such as wildfires. Criteria for selecting specific monitoring site locations includes but is not limited to unobstructed air flow, accessibility for individuals who collect samples and perform maintenance, and site security.
