BREEDER AWARDS are 20% of the gross purse, including supplements, and are paid to the individual listed as the Breeder by the Jockey Club and Equibase (except when entered for a claiming price of less than $10,000).
The Breeder is defined as the owner of the horse’s dam at the time of foaling, this should be reflected on the Thoroughbred Foal Registration and on Jockey Club.
The breeder of a registered Indiana Bred which wins a race in another state, Puerto Rico or Canada earns 10% of the winner’s share of the purse for any race, except when entered for a claiming price of less than $10,000. Out-of-state awards are not to exceed $10,000. You are eligible for an out-of-state breeder award when there is no live Thoroughbred race meet in progress in Indiana (except for stakes races or when there is no live racing scheduled for six or more consecutive days), and for 2-year-olds winning out of state prior to July 1 of race meet.
STALLION OWNER AWARDS are 10% of the gross purse, including supplements, and are paid to the Stallion Owner listed on the Thoroughbred Stallion Application (except when entered for a claiming price of less than $10,000).
The Stallion Owner is defined as the owner or lessee of a registered Indiana stallion at time of conception.
In the event of multiple breeders or stallion owners, the award will be paid to the individual listed as the designated recipient on the registration for Foal or Stallion, respectively. It is the sole responsibility of the "designated recipient" to distribute monies to the remaining recipients.
If the award is to be paid to a stable/business, then the stable/business must be registered with Jockey Club and Equibase as the "Breeder" or "Stallion Owner", the W-9 and Direct Deposit forms must reflect this. If the award is to be paid to an individual, then the W-9 and Direct Deposit forms must be completed in that individual’s name.
Awards begin processing as soon as the samples collected on a race date have been cleared by an independent, out-of-state testing facility. It may take up to 60 days between the date of the race and the deposit of the award in your bank account.
