Indiana's Imagery Services
Did you know that the Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) hosts historic and current imagery as REST services?
Dynamic Services
Dynamic imagery services allow users to explore imagery interactively by fetching the 4-band cloud-optimized GeoTIFF (COG) stored in our AWS Open Data account. The service also enables viewing color infrared for orthoimage and shaded relief and hill shade products for DEM. Dynamic imagery services are useful for analysis, change detection, and exploration. These are accessible from https://di-ingov.img.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/DynamicWebMercator.
Our dynamic services include orthoimagery from 2005 to our current program of 2021-2024. Dynamic imagery services are organized by program cycle (ex: 2016 to 2019) and individual collection years (ex: 2017). If you want to make sure you are always accessing the latest imagery, the office also maintains a "current" service (https://di-ingov.img.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/DynamicWebMercator/Indiana_Current_Imagery/ImageServer). This service is updated annually as we receive new data.
Cached Services
Cached imagery services provide 3-band pre-rendered image tiles. These tiles are optimized for fast display and are suitable for basemaps or static visualization. It uses the same imagery catalog but generates and caches tiles in advance, improving performance and reducing server load. Cached imagery is ideal for web maps, applications, and scenarios where responsiveness and speed are critical. These are accessible from https://di-ingov.img.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/CacheWebMercator.
