Digging into the SEED Grant: A Refresher on This Vital Funding Opportunity
The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) is excited to offer a SEED grant refresher webinar on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST. This session is designed to provide insight into the SEED grant process, updates on application statuses, and a closer look at how this funding is shaping geospatial data improvements across Indiana counties.
Watching the SEED Grow
Tracking the progress of SEED grant applications has never been easier with the SEED Grant Dashboard. This powerful resource visually maps application statuses, highlights priority areas receiving attention, and offers timely updates on awarded funding. Make sure to visit frequently to stay informed!
Spring Into Action – Limited Application Cycles Left!
Time is running out to apply for the SEED grant, and many Indiana counties have yet to submit applications. With only 9 application cycles remaining, it's crucial to act quickly. Keep in mind:
- Only 8 applications will be reviewed in the final cycle—don’t wait until the last minute!
- This funding opportunity is critical for counties looking to improve GIS data in alignment with the NENA Next-Gen 911 Standards.
Planting the Seeds for Success
Just as farmers prepare for planting season—selecting seeds, testing soil, optimizing row spacing, and monitoring growth—the SEED grant process follows a similar path for GIS data refinement and development:
- Selecting the Right Seeds: The IGIO has identified and prioritized datasets that counties must improve to meet the NENA NG911 Standards for GIS Data Model compliance.
- Testing the Soil Quality: Counties can request a Preliminary Assessment Report, which evaluates the current state of their data and tests its quality using Datamark VEP Portal validation tools.
- Preparing and Optimizing Data: Counties design project plans, optimize their datasets, and apply for the grant to begin the data enhancement process.
- Planting the Seed: Once awarded, the grant provides essential funding to advance GIS data quality over the next 12 months.
- Monitoring and Controlling Growth: Counties submit quarterly activity, progress, and financial reports via eCivis, ensuring accountability and tracking improvements over time.
- Harvesting Your Crop: The final result? Reliable, accurate GIS data, collaboratively developed to align with the NENA NG911 GIS Data Model standards. Through sustainable data quality management practices, counties ensure long-term success.
