Next Steps

After you have submitted the interest form:

  • A DCS Regional Foster Care Specialist (RFCS) will contact you and provide general introductory information about foster care, roles and expectations, as well as licensing requirements, including training and an overview of the family preparation process.
  • An initial licensing packet will be given to you. The RFCS is committed to helping you fill out the information and guide you through the process.
  • You will be scheduled for pre-service training and provided additional training information for Resource and Adoptive Parent Training (RAPT) and for medical training.
  • Home visits will be scheduled in order for the RFCS to conduct the home-study assessment. The initial licensing documents should be completed and given to the RFCS at that time.
  • Once you have been licensed as a foster care parent and a child is placed in your home, you will be supported by your RFCS and the child's Family Case Manager (FCM).  Both will be available for questions and guidance.
  • Throughout your tenure as a Foster Parent, additional home assessments, training, annual reviews and re-licensure will be required.
