Lora D. Puckett, former sheriff, dies

Lora D. Puckett, 86, 115 W. Sherman St., Marion, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday in Bradner Village where he had been a resident since November 1987.

Mr. Puckett was a life resident of Grant County where he served as sheriff from 1945-48. He owned and was the auctioneer of Puckett Auction House and owned Puckett Realty for many years. Mr. Puckett was a member of Westside Assembly of God, Fort Wayne Mizmur Shrine, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, Indiana and National Auctioneer’s Association, the Marion Area Board of Realtors, the Indiana Sheriff’s Association and a 50-year member of Arcana Masonic Lodge No. 427, Upland.

Survivors include his wife, Florence E.; a son, Richard B., Upland; a step-son, Donald Endlsey, Marion; a daughter, Mrs. William (Joan) Orr, Marion; a sister, Mrs. Sylvia AWood, Marion; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Jones Funeral Home, 309 N. Main St., Upland, with the Rev. Johnny Garrison officiating. Burial will be in the Mairon IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
