Look and listen. We’re not here to tell you how to do your creative work. We’re here to support.

Running your own business has its pros and cons, and one of its pros is that you don’t have to know and do it all.

Making a living as an artist has garnered some rough connotations: “it’s hard,” “you live paycheck to paycheck,” and so on. This can be true – for artists and non-artists alike.

Pursuing your artistic career full-time shouldn’t mean sacrificing your personal wellbeing or lifestyle.

The Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has partnered with the IU Kelley School of Business to provide digital marketing and E-commerce assistance to small businesses affected by COVID-19. Through project HOPE, IU Kelley students, under the direction of faculty members, work directly with client companies of the Indiana SBDC to complete digital marketing and E-commerce projects.

Small creative businesses and artists are encouraged to apply!

We asked creatives how the pandemic has affected them and what kind of support they need in a survey. According to the results, more than three quarters of creatives have been significantly impacted by COVID-19, with half of them considering themselves unemployed. More than half of respondents have less than three months of savings on hand, and are in critical need of support for their living expenses. As a whole, this group of individuals seeks support in the form of securing paid opportunities. Does this ring true to you? What's most important? Will you help us design solutions? Contact Anna to be a part of future conversations at atragesser@iac.in.gov or (317) 508-6115.

Indiana has three times the concrentration of self-employed creatives compared to the United States average! Want to learn more about the creative economy?
