Established by the Indiana General Assembly, the State Board of Education oversees K-12 education policymaking in the State of Indiana. The bipartisan board is composed of eleven members, including the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Eight members are appointed by the Governor and must include:

  • At least six appointees with professional experience in the field of education;

  • Not more than one appointee from a particular congressional district; and

  • Not more than five appointees belonging to the same political party.

The remaining two board members are appointed by the Speaker of the Indiana House Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Indiana Senate respectively.

  • INTASS Online Evaluator Training: INTASS Level 1 Evaluator Certification training consists of a series of plan neutral, online, self-guided learning modules that support educators to develop a deep understanding of evaluation practices that increase teacher effectiveness. Participants will earn a certification that is recognized by the IDOE and SBOE and that provides strong evidence of evaluation program quality for state monitoring purposes.   • SBOE Rule Public Hearing: On March 4, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at the Indiana State Board of Education, 143 West Market Street, Conference Room 118, Indianapolis, Indiana,, 46204, the Indiana State Board of Education will hold a public hearing on proposed changes to Title 511 of the Indiana Administrative Code. The proposed rule amends 511 IAC 15-7-2 by shortening the 90-day cut score effective date waiting period. The proposed rule would not impose requirements or costs under IC 4-22-2-24(d)(3).
