Public Participation in a State Board Meeting

Indiana State Board of Education

Established by the Indiana General Assembly, the State Board of Education oversees K-12 education policymaking in the State of Indiana. The bipartisan board is composed of eleven members, including the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Eight members are appointed by the Governor and must include:

  • At least six appointees with professional experience in the field of education;

  • Not more than one appointee from a particular congressional district; and

  • Not more than five appointees belonging to the same political party.

The remaining two board members are appointed by the Speaker of the Indiana House Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Indiana Senate respectively.

Graduation Pathways Panel 

IC 20-32-4-1.5 tasked the State Board with establishing graduation pathways, in consultation with the Commission for Higher Education and the Division of Workforce Development.  The State Board created the Graduation Pathways Panel to seek input from stakeholders, and to provide recommendations to the State Board.

The Panel meetings are set for August 10, 22, and 29; September 19 and 26; October 10 and 17; and November 7, 2017 at the State Library, History Reference Room 211, 315 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202.  The Panel will meet from 9:00AM to 12:00PM (ET) on each of those dates.

A-F Audit and Appeal

The SBOE will hold a school's grade under embargo until the resolution of an appeal so long as the appeal request and supporting documentation is submitted to the online portal at https://accountability.doe.in.gov and received by the IDOE not later than 11:59 pm EDT on September 25, 2017.

Appeals can be filed after the September 25 deadline, up until 11:59 EDT on October 16, 2017, but the grades will not be held under embargo while the appeal is being resolved.
