Established by the Indiana General Assembly, the State Board of Education oversees K-12 education policymaking in the State of Indiana. The bipartisan board is composed of eleven members, including the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Eight members are appointed by the Governor and must include:
At least six appointees with professional experience in the field of education;
Not more than one appointee from a particular congressional district; and
Not more than five appointees belonging to the same political party.
The remaining two board members are appointed by the Speaker of the Indiana House Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Indiana Senate respectively.
INTASS Online Evaluator Training: INTASS Level 1 Evaluator Certification training consists of a series of plan neutral, online, self-guided learning modules that support educators to develop a deep understanding of evaluation practices that increase teacher effectiveness. Charter and Innovation School Advance Program: On August 11, 2015, the State Board of Education released updated guidelines and an application for the Charter and Innovation School Advance Program established by Public Law 213-2015. Applications for an advance must be received by the State Board by October 31, 2015. More information can be found here.
New Adult Accountability Rule: On August 24, 2015, at 9:00 a.m., at the Indiana State Board of Education, 143 West Market Street, Conference Room 118, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204, the State Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the new accountability rule – 14-508.
