The Indiana Public Defender Council is a state, judicial
branch agency, established in 1977 as a support center for attorneys
who represent indigent criminal defendants in Indiana (I.C. 33-40-4).
The mission of the Council is to improve legal representation provided
at public expense in state courts in Indiana. The Council is governed
by an 11-member Board of Directors and currently has approximately
1100 members.
The Council does not provide legal representation. The Indiana
Justice Center web site provides information on organizations
offering legal assistance to low income people in Indiana. See the
Marion County Courts
web site for information on courts, phone numbers, jury service,
etc in Marion County. For information about other counties, see
