New base rates for the Knightstown Municipal Electric Utility were approved on August 6, 2014.
In IURC Cause No. 44460-U, Knightstown requested a 9.6 percent increase. The OUCC, after completing its review, recommended limiting the increase to 5.8 percent. The utility agreed with the OUCC's recommendations, which were approved in the Commission order.
All public documents in the rate case are available by visiting the IURC's electronic document system and entering docket number 44460.
The OUCC issued a March 24, 2014 news release to invite consumer comments.
Knightstown and other electric utilities are also allowed to adjust rates periodically through IURC proceedings, to recover purchased power costs on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
In the IURC's most recent survey of residential utility rates, Knightstown's rates ranked fifth-highest among the 14 electric utilities under IURC jurisdiction.
