New rates for the City of Martinsville's municipal water utility were approved on December 12, 2012. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission's (IURC's) 13-page order approved a settlement agreement between the city and the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC).

The city's original request would have raised monthly water charges for a residential customer using 5,000 gallons per month from $21.16 to $31.43. The approved agreement limits water charges to $29.62 for the same usage.

Municipal sewer rates are not under IURC jurisdiction and were not at issue in this case.

An OUCC news release inviting consumer comments was issued on May 14, 2012.
