Indiana American Water Co. Rate Case

On October 10, 2007, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) issued a final order in Cause No. 43187, approving a July 31 settlement agreement between the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) and Indiana American Water Company (IAWC).

Under the order, IAWC will receive a 9.9 percent increase in its rates and charges to be applied evenly (on a percentage basis) among customer classes (residential, commercial, industrial) and evenly throughout the utility's Indiana service territories. IAWC had requested an 18.1 percent rate increase in this case while the OUCC filed testimony in May recommending an increase of 2.94 percent.

A copy of the IURC final order, incuding the agreement, is available online by clicking here. The 54-page document is in PDF format (which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view) and may take significant time to download based on the user's Internet connection speed.

As explained in the agreement, key provisions include the utility's commitment to develop a long-range water conservation plan, the elimination of the utility's proposed energy rate adjustment mechanism, inclusion of certain revenue sources to help partially offset the need for increased rates, and agreements between the parties on numerous expenses.

Public field hearings in this case were conducted in Greenwood (April 19), Jeffersonville (May 14), Gary (May 17), and Muncie (June 5).
