January 2008 will mark the seventh anniversary of National Mentoring Month. General Colin L. Powell will headline the national campaign to recruit more mentors – along with help from Maya Angelou, Clint Eastwood, Quincy Jones, Sting, and Usher. In addition to public service announcements (PSA’s) created last year, General Powell, Grammy Award-winning R&B recording artist Usher and music icon Quincy Jones will be featured in new PSA’s with the theme, “Share what you know. Mentor a child.”

The Harvard Mentoring Project invited real-life mentor/entree pairs to share their stories for the chance to be featured in National Mentoring Month 2008 PSA's. The two pairs selected were nominated by: Bay Area Mentoring (San Francisco) on behalf of Friends for Youth; and, the Governor's Commission on Community Service in Denver, Colorado on behalf of Denver Kids, Inc., a member program of the Youth Mentoring Collaborative. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana is proud to celebrate National Mentoring Month locally through a calendar of events and shares the national emphasis for mentor recruitment. “When I see the amazing impact that our Big Brothers and Big Sisters have on their Littles, I am so grateful,” said BBBSCI CEO Tonja Eagan. “The stories we hear everyday only encourage us to recruit more mentors because there are so many more youth that should have this experience.”Share what you know.
