Who's Your Mentor?

Who Mentored You

January 2008 will mark the seventh anniversary of National Mentoring Month. General Colin L. Powell will headline the national campaign to recruit more mentors – along with help from Maya Angelou, Clint Eastwood, Quincy Jones, Sting, and Usher. In addition to public service announcements (PSA’s) created last year, General Powell, Grammy Award-winning R&B recording artist Usher and music icon Quincy Jones will be featured in new PSA’s with the theme, “Share what you know. Mentor a child.”

Some of America's most prominent people discuss important mentors in their lives -- family members, teachers, coaches, friends, neighbors -- who provided support, showed them the ropes, and helped them become who they are today. Listen, watch, or read Celebrity Interviews. Read the press release. Watch the PSA's at WhoMentoredYou.org.

The ReelPeople Project

The Harvard Mentoring Project invited real-life mentor/entree pairs to share their stories for the chance to be featured in National Mentoring Month 2008 PSA's. The two pairs selected were nominated by: Bay Area Mentoring (San Francisco) on behalf of Friends for Youth; and, the Governor's Commission on Community Service in Denver, Colorado on behalf of Denver Kids, Inc., a member program of the Youth Mentoring Collaborative. Watch the PSA's: Jennifer & Iliana (Friends for Youth)   Mark & Nigel (Denver Kids, Inc.) .
