The AmeriCorps Improving Health Throughout Indiana program strives to empower children, families, and communities to decrease health disparities through education and information regarding proper nutrition and physical activities through community-based health promotion approaches. The approaches include outreach, education, peer counseling and acts of volunteerism.

The Harmony-Corps Student Engagement Project is a program of the Harmony Education Center (HEC).  Harmony is based on the principal that the role of education in a democracy is to sensitize young people to the delicate balance between individual growth and community responsibility.  The mission of the Harmony-Corps Program is to stand as authentic allies for urban youth to create equitable outcomes in their school, community, and world.  Harmony-Corps members facilitate and support opportunities for youth leadership, youth-led programming, and family engagement in Indianapolis high schools and communities.  Currently, 12 members serve full time with the program on six high school campuses.

GrowIndiana is an AmeriCorps National Service program of Indiana Campus Compact. The goals of the GrowIndiana AmeriCorps program are to 1. increase awareness of the importance of math among Indiana students; 2. increase middle school math performance in the state of Indiana; and 3. retain college graduates with math-based degrees within the state of Indiana. These needs will be addressed through program activities at both the middle school and college levels.

Aftercare for Indiana through Mentoring was founded by Dr. G. Roger Jarjoura, professor of criminal justice at Indiana University, in 1996.  AIM is a diverse team of dedicated AmeriCorps members and adult volunteers.  As mentors, we provide reentry support to incarcerated youths returning to communities throughout Indiana.  We provide effective role models that target unique needs of these youths, inspiring purpose, motivation and direction for as long as the youths are receptive to our help.

The Red Cross AmeriCorps Program of Northern Indiana seeks to meet the specific needs of the mix of rural and urban counties represented by the various Red Cross chapters of Northern Indiana. The program will train AmeriCorps members in order to help increase and promote disaster preparedness of area residents, to increase the recruitment of community volunteers to prepare for and respond to disasters, and to increase the overall collaboration and coordination across the region between Red Cross units and the local and county governments that are called upon to serve in the time of a disaster.

The Neighborhood After School Corps, an AmeriCorps program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis, provides services and programs to better the lives of youth in Marion County. Services focus strongly on leadership development programs and creating opportunities for youth to implement community service projects, but members offer a wide variety of programs and activities as well.  Additional  services such as tutoring, after school enrichment activities, summer day camps, conflict resolution skills, violence prevention skills, health education, and organized recreation are offered to meet the needs of low-income, vulnerable youth and their families in Indianapolis.
