Sneak Peek: Indiana Library Leadership Academy Today’s library professionals require a skill set that positions them to identify and predict changes in the industry, the community they serve, and the needs of their stakeholders. In an effort to prepare the library community’s future leaders for these 21st-Century challenges, the Indiana State Library’s Professional Development Committee has established the Indiana Library Leadership Academy. The inaugural 10-month academy will begin this July for a group of 50 cohorts whom will contribute to a meaningful project through a series of classes, workshops, and other meetings. The program commences with a five-day workshop at the Canyon Inn at McCormick’s Creek State Park. State and national leaders in the library community, such as incoming ALA president Maureen Sullivan, will spend time with cohorts covering topics such as planning for the future, team-building, management, and emerging technologies. By the end of the week, participants will have defined the capstone project that will guide their work in the Academy over the next 10 months. The Indiana Library Leadership Academy, valued at over $2,100 per person, will be deeply subsidized by the Indiana State Library. Participants pay only $150 over the course of the program and are welcome and encouraged to seek local grant or scholarship funding to cover their portion of the costs. In the coming days, stay tuned for an announcement containing links to the online and Academy homepage on WebJunction Indiana. Contest Asks Students to Share What INSPIREs Them The Indiana Center for the Book is now accepting entries for the "What INSPIREs You?" essay contest. Students are asked to tell us who or what inspires you? Using INSPIRE to connect to reliable information from academic journals, newspapers, biographies and more, students may enter the contest through April 20, 2012 (postmarked date). The 2012 contest is divided into three grade levels: 3-6; 7-9; and 10-12 and is open to Indiana residents. Winners will be notified by April 30, 2012 and invited to the 2012 Indiana Student Literary Awards on May 12, 2012 at the Indiana State Library. Visit www.in.gov/library/essay.htm for complete contest rules and the official entry form. Indianapolis to Host 2012 Evergreen International Conference The 2012 Evergreen International Conference will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, home of Evergreen Indiana, at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. The conference is an annual opportunity for Evergreen users worldwide and those considering Evergreen to come together for discussion and continued education. With close to 1000 libraries currently running Evergreen in North America alone, we are expecting this year’s conference to be even bigger than last year’s with close to 200 attendees. Visit evergreen2012.org to take a look at the 2012 Conference Program or to get more information about this year's conference. |
