As a convenience, the tanks on this list have been approved for commercial and residential applications. Tanks used in residential settings or where children may have access to them (apartments, mobile home parks, camps, etc.) must be fitted with a secondary cap or plug at all access openings, as required by IC 16-41-25-3. Engineers and architects submitting septic system plans need to specify the following:

Tank size;
Single or two-compartment;
Minimum 18-inch inside diameter riser to grade (one for each compartment);
Watertight securely fastened cover over the riser(s);
Outlet filter (riser must allow clear access to filter).

All tanks on this list are of a single compartment design unless designated as two-compartment (2-comp.). Applications requiring a two-compartment tank should either select a manufactured two-compartment tank, or provide two individual tanks in series. MANUFACTURERS MAY NOT ARBITRARILY MAKE TWO-COMPARTMENT TANKS FROM APPROVED SINGLE-COMPARTMENT DESIGNS WITHOUT ISDH APPROVAL.
