Biofuels plants in Indiana surpassed the 1 billion gallon goal set for the end of 2008, paving the way for Indiana’s biofuels leadership. The biofuels plants that will dot Indiana’s landscape are all in or near small, rural Hoosier towns. The plants not only bring dollars and capital to the rural economies, but also bring jobs to rural Indiana. The technology being developed through this new sector in the energy industry will not only relieve our dependence on foreign oil, but will also revitalize our rural economies.

Through our top research universities, including Purdue University, Indiana is driving biofuel research. In fact, Indiana is one of the first states to transition its ethanol production tax incentives from corn-based production to cellulosic-based production.
