Dustin Houchin has been serving as Washington County Prosecutor since being first elected in 2006. During this time, Dustin has aggressively prosecuted repeat offenders, increased drug prosecution, worked with Sheriff Combs to track and prosecute sex offenders, increased services to victims, and eliminated waste from the annual budget, trimming more than $75,000.
In addition to his efforts in the Prosecutor’s Office, Dustin has taken a leadership role in his community. Dustin currently serves as the President of the Washington County Substance Abuse Council and Youth First of Washington County, serves on the Community Corrections Advisory Board, and is a deacon at the Mount Tabor Christian Church. He also takes time to speak to area students about the court system and the dangers of drugs and alcohol. In 2009, Dustin was nominated by members of the community for the Citizen of the Year. In January, 2011, Dustin was nominated by his fellows prosecutors and appointed to serve on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney Council, where he takes an active role in shaping policy that impacts crime across our State.
Dustin brought a wide range of experience to the Prosecutor’s office in 2006. He operated a successful law practice in Salem, including work as a Washington County Public Defender where he gained valuable experience in criminal law. Prior to that, Dustin worked as a legislative assistant in the Indiana House of Representatives assisting numerous State Representatives including now State Senator Brent Steele. Dustin graduated law school from the IU School of Law in Indianapolis with a 3.4 GPA. He graduated with high distinction from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
A lifelong resident of Washington County, Dustin was raised in Campbellsburg. Dustin and his wife, Erin, now live in Salem with their three children.
