Michael Horton, Master Instructor. served twenty-four (24) years with the Dearborn County Sheriff Department along with several other agencies in the Dearborn and Ohio County area prior to joining the staff at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in December of 2004.

Lieutenant Horton has served in many areas while in Law Enforcement such as Communications officer, Patrol officer, Jail Commander, SWAT Commander, Training Director, Crime Scene Technician, and Patrol Commander.

He is a graduate of the seventy-first (71st) Basic Session of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, the one hundred ninety third (193rd) session of the FBI National Academy, and obtained his Master Instructor Certificate in 1998. 

Lieutenant Horton is also certified as an instructor in Instructor Development, LETB certified Jail Academy, LETB Certified Firearms and Shotgun Instructor Courses and Certified Reserve Officer Academy.

He has instructed Police Mountain Bike, Domestic Violence, O.C. Spray, Taser, and Criminal Investigations classes. He has served as president of the Laughery Valley FOP and President of the South Central Indiana Law Enforcement Training Council. Lieutenant Horton's primary duties at the academy consist of Criminal Investigations, Firearms, OIC of the Jail Officer's Course, and assisting with various Basic Course classes.
