IDEM Screening and Closure Level Tables

IDEM began publishing risk-based tables in 1996. This page provides links to the various tables, usually in both Adobe Acrobat and Excel versions.

IDEM issues the 2022 Published Level Table in conjunction with Risk-Based Closure Guide (R2) (available on the IDEM Effective Nonrule Policies page) on July 8, 2022. There is no transition period.

2022 Screening Level Table

IDEM’s 2022 Remediation Closure Guide (RCG) Screening Level Table is effective beginning March 1, 2022. The explanatory text is unchanged from 2016.

2021 Screening Level Table

IDEM’s 2021 Remediation Closure Guide (RCG) Screening Level Table was effective beginning March 1, 2021. The explanatory text is unchanged from 2016.

2020 Screening Level Table

2016 Screening Level Table

IDEM’s 2016 Screening Level Table was effective beginning March 7, 2016.

2014 Screening Level Table

IDEM’s 2014 Screening Level Table was effective beginning March 5, 2014.

2013 Screening Level Table

IDEM’s 2013 Screening Level Table was effective beginning March 1, 2013.

2012 Screening Level Table

IDEM issued the 2012 Screening Level Table in conjunction with the Remediation Closure Guide on March 22, 2012. See Section 1.4 of the Remediation Program Guide for additional information on transition policies.

2009 Default Closure Level Table

IDEM issued the 2009 Default Closure Level Table on May 1, 2009. See Announcement of revisions to the 2006 Risk Integrated System of Closure (RISC) Default Closure Tables for additional information.

2006 Default Closure Level Table

IDEM issued the 2006 Default Closure Level Table on January 31, 2006. IDEM subsequently revised closure levels for certain polyaromatic hydrocarbons on August 1, 2006. The links below do not reflect the August 1, 2006 changes. See Announcement of Certain Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) closure level changes for additional information.

2004 Default Closure Level Table

IDEM issued the 2004 Default Closure Level Table on January 1, 2004. This table replaced an improperly constructed July 29, 2003 table that IDEM subsequently withdrew.

2001 Default Closure Level Table

IDEM issued the 2001 Default Closure Level Table on February 15, 2001, in conjunction with the Risk Integrated System of Closure (RISC) Technical Resource Guidance Document. IDEM corrected errata in these tables on July 24, 2001, and the linked tables below include those corrections.

IDEM’s VRP published Tier II Cleanup Goals as part of the July 1996 Voluntary Remediation Program Resource Guide.
