IDEM > Rules, Statutes & Policies > Nonrule Policies Nonrule Policies

A nonrule policy document (NPD) is intended to clarify for the public IDEM’s interpretation of an environmental statute or rule. It is not intended by the Agency to have the effect of law, nor is not related solely to internal Agency organization. Per Indiana Code 13-14-1-11.5, a NPD shall be made available on the Agency Internet Web site for at least forty-five (45) days and then explained to the appropriate state environmental board(s). It becomes effective thirty (30) days afterward, and shall be sent for publication in the Indiana Register.

NPDs that are open for inspection and comment are listed as "pending." If you have questions or comments, please contact the IDEM staff identified with each "pending" or "effective" NPD listed below.
