Bloomington, Ind.

More than 80 people were in attendance Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Council Chambers at Bloomington's City Hall in Bloomington, Ind. for a fair housing training, equal employment workshop and Continuing Legal Education seminar.

To celebrate our 50th Anniversary, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) is traveling throughout the state to provide fair housing training, equal employment workshops and Continuing Legal Education seminars for landlords, property managers, housing authorities, human resource professionals, employers, the business community and the general public. The series, titled The Power of Diversity, is free to attend and led by local, state and nationally acclaimed presenters.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission provided dozens of housing providers, landlords and apartment maintenance staff Fair Housing Training in Southern Indiana. Participants received certificates of completion.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission, working with the Hoosier Hills Food Bank in Bloomington, provided more than 100 food providers in Monroe County training on their rights and responsibilities under Indiana Civil Rights Laws.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission, working with the Burmese Advocacy Center in Fort Wayne, hosted a training for members of the Burmese community. The training involved an overview of Indiana Civil Rights Laws, as well as answering specific questions regarding concerns of discrimination.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission, working in collaboration with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, hosted a conference titled Navigating the Changing Landscape in Housing, Education and Employment. The more than 200 in attendance participated in housing and employment workshops, a Continuing Legal Education seminar, an education roundtable, and a lunch panel discussion focused on preparing our young people for the changing job market.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission, working in collaboration with the Terre Haute Human Relations Commission and Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, hosted Community Fair Housing Workshop at the Booker T. Washington Community Center in Terre Haute. Topics discussed included: landlord/tenant rights, fair housing for individuals with disabilities and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.

The Indiana Civil Rights Commission, working with the Indiana Governor’s Council for Individuals with Disabilities, the Back Home in Indiana Alliance, the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority hosted Fair Housing and Beyond at the Indiana Government Conference Center. The conference focused on providing fair housing for individuals with disabilities and advocating for independent living.
