HIP Employer Link

HIP Employer Link > Information for Health Insurance Agents Information for Health Insurance Agents

In this time of massive changes and complex mandates, HIP Employer Link is an excellent opportunity for health-insurance agents to help their clients offer more coverage choices to low-wage employees – many who currently opt not to participate in their employer’s group health-insurance plan.

How does HIP Employer Link work?
Employers register their health plans to participate, then their employees who are eligible and want to participate in HIP Employer Link sign up with the state. Once an employee is enrolled in the employer-sponsored health plan, the employer will deduct the cost of premiums charged from the employee’s pay, per normal procedures. In turn, the state will reimburse the employee directly for the amount of the deduction, minus a small contribution made by the employee.

Why should health insurance agents promote HIP Employer Link to employers?
HIP Employer Link provides agents the opportunity to expand coverage options for low income employees. In addition, agents can market existing products that meet the HIP Employer Link benefit requirements to current and potentially new prospects, and they can offer HIP Employer Link to reduce Medicaid “crowd out” of commercial coverage.

Why should employers participate in HIP Employer Link?
More employees may be able to take advantage of commercial health insurance benefits, and an increase in employees may help to meet industry and marketplace participation rates or lower group premium rates. Possible tax benefits are also available for small employers using the Health Insurance Marketplace.
