Indiana Library Leadership Academy Kicks Off Year Two

Indiana Library Leadership AcademyLast week marked the kick-off of the 2013 Indiana Librarian Leadership AcademyDuring the week-long event, the 2012-13 cohort presented their capstone projects and gave valuable feedback on changes to make in the curriculum for the incoming group and to the 2014 week-long conference.  Groups for the 2013-14 teams were made through a variation of the speed dating model.

Catherine Hakala-Ausperk, the event’s keynote speaker, teamed up the 2012-13 mentors with 2013-14 mentees. The pairing of mentors and mentees for the program is intended to help strengthen the profession statewide. Other keynote speakers included participating Kirsten Leonard, PALNI, Edra Waterman, Hamilton East Public Library, and Michael Kruze, Batesville Memorial Public Library.

The conference was also used to discuss important resources such as books, articles, tutorials, webinars, databases, and more. The conference was very successful and progress was made toward bettering Librarian Leadership Academy in the future.

Join the State Library Hoosier Heritage Day at the State Fair

Hoosier Heritage Day @ the Indiana State FairOn August 8, learn about Hoosier history at the annual Hoosier Heritage Day at the Indiana State Fair. Sponsored by 12 state agencies, including the Indiana State Library, and three statewide not-for-profits, the entire day has been devoted to Indiana history.

Fairgoers can meet re-enactors portraying Madame C.J. Walker, President Abraham Lincoln, and Raggedy Anne. After talking with the re-enactors, attendees can play a history trivia game, try on an Indiana Supreme Court Judge’s robe, or put together a State House puzzle. Attendees can learn more about Hoosier participation in all U.S. wars by talking with historical re-enactors or by visiting with the staff at the Indiana War Memorial. Finally, take a trip on one of the architectural trolley tours and learn about the history and beauty of the buildings at the State Fair.

The Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology will also be recognizing and awarding certificates to all of the Indiana properties that were placed on the State and National Registers from April 2012-July 2013. The ceremony will take place at the DNR Amphitheater on the Indiana State Fairgrounds starting at 1 pm.
