The Porter Fire Department sponsors and supports a Search and Rescue K9. The purpose of the Search and Rescue (SAR) K9 is to assist in searching for lost or missing people. Missing subjects may be lost children in the state park or elderly persons with dementia who wander from home. As part of the Fire Department, the SAR K9 is able to assist Porter Police, Park Rangers and other agencies when called.
