Representatives from the Office of the Indiana Secretary of State to Visit County Fairs

Representatives from Indiana secretary of state Charlie White’s office will visit nine counties as a part of county fair tour.

INDIANAPOLIS (July 8, 2011) Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White today announced his office will visit several Indiana counties as part of its outreach efforts. The office attends county fairs to educate the community about the services offered by the office’s four divisions – business services, dealer services, securities and elections.

“Getting the office out to these outreach events is particularly important because we want the community to understand who we are, what we do and how we can help,” White said. “We have made an effort to reach out to fairs we have never visited, and whether we are educating on the red flags of investment fraud, registering folks to vote or helping entrepreneurs form their business, outreach gives our office an opportunity to directly connect with Hoosiers.”

In total, the office participates in over a hundred outreach events across the state each year. “Our office serves all of Indiana and we put a strong emphasis on having as much of a statewide presence as possible,” Melanie Woods, Investment Education Coordinator, said. “Events like county fairs allow us to connect with Hoosiers face-to-face to answer their questions and inform them about the various resources available through our four divisions.”

“One of the primary goals of the Indiana Election Division is to reach out to Hoosiers and remind them of their civic duty to vote,” Jeremy Burton, HAVA Outreach Manager, said. “Our office is non-partisan and is focused on strengthening the electoral process for everyone. By getting out into the counties, we reach as many Hoosiers as possible with a message to register and vote.”

Those visiting the secretary of state’s booth will find an abundance of useful information ranging from pamphlets on saving for retirement, paying off credit cards, investing and protecting against fraud to educational guides on becoming a poll worker. Visitors will be able to register to vote or change their voter registration. Children can take home financial football or soccer games from the booth.

The office will visit the following counties on the accompanying dates:

Rush County – Sunday, 6/19
Vigo County – Sunday, 7/10
Howard County – Monday, 7/11
White County - Saturday, 7/16
Allen County – Tuesday, 7/19
Boone County – Friday, 7/22
Harrison County – Sunday, 7/24
Jay County – Monday, 7/25
