Workshop will focus on financial New Year’s resolutions

(Indianapolis) - Two of the most popular New Year’s resolutions are to live a healthier lifestyle and to put personal finances in order. Secretary of State Todd Rokita will be offering a free workshop to downtown employees that focus on how to get a jump start on a combination of both resolutions.

The free workshop, 'Casholutions,' will be held at the Indiana Government Center South Conference Center, 402 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis on Thursday, January 24 from 11:30am - 12:30pm and 12:30pm - 1:30pm. Two sessions will be offered to accommodate those who attend on their lunch breaks. Featured speakers will join Rokita in discussing best practices that can help participants achieve their New Year’s resolutions of maintaining a financially fit lifestyle.

"'Casholutions' is a term we use to characterize an array of important monetary considerations," Rokita said. "I don't think anyone can ever have too much information when it comes to painting a personal financial picture."

Some of the 'Casholutions' topics to be addressed include how to control spending, creating a livable budget, managing credit card debt, and investigating before investing.  Various state agencies will also be participating in an information fair during the workshops.

"It's never too late to begin taking steps toward improving your financial health," Rokita said. "A financially fit Hoosier today can lead to a financially fit Indiana tomorrow."

'Casholutions' workshops are an important component of the Indiana Investment Watch program developed by the Secretary of State's office, which regulates securities and can inform investors whether or not an investment is legitimate. Indiana Investment Watch is a free service and is funded entirely from fines paid by stock brokerage firms in connection with the settlement of stock analyst conflict of interest cases and from the state's securities enforcement fund, which contains money collected from court settlements in security fraud cases.
