The Prescription Monitoring Program
The Indiana Scheduled Prescription Electronic Collection and Tracking (INSPECT) program is designed to serve as a tool to address the problem of prescription drug abuse and diversion in Indiana. By compiling controlled substance information into an online database (PMP Webcenter), INSPECT performs two critical functions:
- it maintains a warehouse of patient information for health care professionals, and
- it provides an important investigative tool for law enforcement.
All data collection and maintenance activities for INSPECT are handled in-house. The data repository is accessible only to registered users and available only through a secure website maintained by program staff. For more information regarding INSPECT, please visit their website at http://www.in.gov/pla/inspect/.
If you are a pharmacy (in-state or nonresident) and you need to register to submit to INSPECT, please visit their website at http://www.in.gov/pla/inspect/ for specific information.

Tramadol will be federally scheduled (IV) effective August 18, 2014. Pharmacies will be required to report all Tramadol prescription records that are more than a 72-hour supply to INSPECT.
-
In addition to this change, INSPECT will be moving closer to real-time reporting over the next year and a half as the program goes to 3 day reporting on 7/1/15, then 24-hour reporting effective 1/1/16.
If you have any questions about these changes, please do not hesitate to contact INSPECT.
