Homeownership Month at the Statehouse
The dream of homeownership is alive and well in Indiana, and is a cornerstone of the programming IHCDA offers to Hoosiers seeking to expand their economic footprint and provide security for their families. For over 30 years IHCDA has offered down payment assistance programs, low-interest loans and tax credits to eligible homebuyers across the state. Today, we are proud to offer five programs to meet the needs of both new and returning homebuyers: Next Home, the Mortgage Credit Certificate, Next Home/Mortgage Credit Certificate Combo, Affordable Home and My Home Conventional. Our Homeownership Department staff and two external account managers cultivate relationships with realtors, mortgage brokers, lenders and other community partners to ensure that Hoosiers are well informed about options to make homeownership more accessible to potential buyers.
In recognition of our state’s commitment to homeownership, Governor Pence signed a proclamation declaring June Homeownership Month in Indiana. On June 16, Lt. Governor Ellspermann joined representatives from IHCDA, the Indiana Builders Association, the Indiana Association of Realtors, Habitat for Humanity of Indiana and other partners to recognize the impact of homeownership during a ceremonial program at the Statehouse. “At IHCDA providing homeownership opportunities is extremely important,” said IHCDA Executive Director Jake Sipe. “Homeownership builds assets and creates memories for individuals and families. We also understand that homeownership has a larger impact on communities and work to provide programs that promote both accessibility to homeownership and financial literacy.”
While Homeownership Month may be coming to an end, IHCDA will continue working to ensure that Hoosier families have access to affordable housing products. Please visit our website to learn more about our homeownership programs.
