Biographical Note:

Christian Giggy was born February 1, 1832 in Canton Berne, Switzerland. He began the process of immigrating to the United States on April 24, 1851. He arrived in New York harbor on June 15, 1851. He reached Cleveland on June 19th. August 20, 1851, he began working at a sawmill in Peninsula, Ohio. In August of 1851, Giggy married Ellen Burkhalter, who was also from Switzerland. The couple had five children: Mary, Rosanna, Charles, Oscar, and Sarah. The family was a member of the Lutheran Church. Giggy died on December 20, 1922.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists of a detailed account of Christian Ziggy’s trip across the ocean, when he immigrated to the United States.
