Biographical Note:
Herbert M. Spencer was born in 1897. He graduated from Indiana University Law School in 1920 and practiced law in Indianapolis. He served as Marion County prosecutor and assistant city attorney before becoming a judge in the Marion County Superior Court (1938-1942). He continued to practice law after leaving the bench. Spencer died on December 13, 1969, at the age of 72.

Scope and Content Note:
The collection consists of a Photostat copy of a newspaper article titled “Reminiscences of the Early Settlement of the Miami Country: Letters from Dr. Ezra Ferris.” Dr. Ferris was a relative of Herbert Spencer’s grandfather.
