InLLA July 2014 Conference update

The Indiana
State Library is very proud to support the Indiana Library
Leadership Academy project which has involved 52 librarians
from public, academic, school and special library
environments across the state of Indiana. Over the past
year, the 2013 InLLA cohort has completed a week-long
intensive leadership conference, met online 5 times,
reviewed over 30 videos, articles, and books to explore
in-depth leadership topics, and met with their individual
project groups countless times. The results of their year of
intensive leadership work were presented at the Library
Leadership Luncheon on Friday, July 25 at the Indiana State
Library. Audience members included Indiana State Library
staff, Indiana Library Federation staff, past InLLA alumni
and members of
ISLs Professional Development Committee. The
projects listed below provide support and assistance to the
library community of Indiana and are made available on
the
ISL Continuing Education website, under the Indiana
Library Leadership Academy tab.
We thank all
of our participants for their interest and support and offer
our congratulations to the 2013 InLLA Cohort!
Library
Advocacy:
Using existing web-based library advocacy toolkits as a
template, Indiana Libraries Out Loud have collected and
curated resources which instruct, inform, and empower
librarians in Indiana to tell their librarys stories OUT
LOUD! The final product includes an advocacy education page
on Indiana Library Federations website by clicking
here.

Culturally Competent Libraries: The Conversation Starters created a resource gateway for
materials to help train librarians and library staff members
in cultural competence; specifically, socio-economic
diversity. The Conversation Starters group hopes that the
website can be expanded to include cultural competency
topics such as race, language, and religion at a later
time.
The group created the website titled
Bridging the Gap to
address and provide socio-economic diversity resources.
This site can be subscribed to in its entirety, or in
specific sections. Especially relevant to librarians are
the social media components that have been included. The
Conversation Starters encourage feedback, comments and
additions to Bridging the Gap.

Publicity:
THIS is MY Library is a library campaign to change the image
of libraries. Libraries are constantly evolving to meet
their patron's needs. This resource was created to assist
Indiana libraries in highlighting and promoting the new face
of libraries. Libraries can use the templates and images
available to create publicity materials such as bookmarks,
and posters, etc. to promote your library and all the
wonderful resources and services available both traditional
and non-traditional. thisismylibrary.weebly.com

INSPIRE
Virtual Library:
PASS It On! researched usage of INSPIRE by public, academic,
school and special librarians. They created printable
posters, bookmarks, and tutorial videos to raise awareness
and usage of freely available public databases available
through INSPIRE to all libraries in Indiana. They gathered
other free resources from database vendors and housed them
all on a new website,
Pass It On.
A special emphasis was given to social media accounts for
spreading the word, (ISL
Facebook and the
ISL Twitter) with
weekly blurbs created by the team to be shared for the
remainder of 2014 focusing on resources and databases in
INSPIRE.

PDO Supervisor Shauna Borger says goodbye to ISL on Friday,
August 8, 2014

Shauna Borger
received her Masters of Library and Information Science from
the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2009. She has
worked for the Indiana State Library since 2011 as Evergreen
Indiana Coordinator, Regional Coordinator, and most
recently, as PDO Supervisor. Shauna has accepted a position
in the library at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and
is excited to be returning to her home state of Wisconsin.
I have
enjoyed working with library professionals in Indiana during
my time at the Indiana State Library. I feel lucky to have
worked in a state with so many creative libraries that are
dedicated to serving patrons in innovative and exciting
ways. Thank you to everyone who provided support and
feedback throughout my involvement with many different ISL
programs. I will continue to benefit from my experiences at
ISL and with Indiana libraries for many years to come.
Amber Painter takes over as the ISL Southwest Regional
Coordinator

ISL would
like to welcome Amber Painter as the new Southwest Regional
Coordinator. Amber graduated from Indiana University in 2011
with a M.L.S., and Saint Marys College in 2007, with a B.A.
in Studio Art with a minor in Political Science. She has
over 8 years of experience working in Museums, Archives, and
Public and Academic libraries. While attending Indiana
University, Amber was a part of I-LLID's cohort 4, and
credits the fellowship for expanding her awareness of the
State Library's services, and impact on the libraries of all
types throughout the state.
Amber
previously worked at the Mitchell Community Public library,
where she was able to gain firsthand experience with
Evergreen Indiana, while serving a rural populace. Although
no longer an employee of MCPL she is thrilled that her new
position will afford her the opportunity to continue serving
