Your New INSPIRE Product: Science Resource Center

Science Resource CenterThis week, we are highlighting Science Resource Center - one your five new Gale databases available through INSPIRE. This resource is an in-depth, curriculum-oriented science database that provides a one-stop resource for all science-related research needs. Science Resource Center reflects curriculum trends and focuses on key concepts taught in school classrooms including biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, math, environmental science, life science, medicine, space science, computer science, technology, history of science, science and society, science as inquiry, science-related biographies and more. The database provides access to more than 2.5 million full-text articles on hundreds of topics. A complete listing of the over 400 publications available through Science Resource Center is available online.

Like all INSPIRE products, beginning July 1st Science Resource Center will be searchable through the new INSPIRE interface. However, you are already capable accessing and searching this new database in addition to the other new Gale products through the current INSPIRE interface or directly on INSPIRE's Gale Database search engine.

Be sure to visit the Science Resource Center homepage for useful materials like fact sheets, tutorials, reference content, and more. Gale also provides some great marketing materials for Science Resource Center, including print and web materials. Gale's Power to the User portal provides these promotional materials along with great tools and advice for marketing all of your Gale databases available through INSPIRE.

Additionally, the State Library's Professional Development Office will hold eight webinars over the next two months that cover the recent additions of five Gale Databases and TalkingBooks.net to the INSPIRE suite. Each webinar is worth one (1) Technology LEU. No pre-registration is required, but participants must sign in via the WebJunction Indiana calendar at least 10 minutes before the webinar begins.

Cheer on Libraries Monday in D.C. or Back Home

Library Advocacy Day: June 29th, 2010Next Monday, library advocates from across the nation will meet on the U.S. Capitol  to learn more about the issues facing libraries and to visit their Congressional delegations to talk about their concerns. For one year only, Library Advocacy Day replaces National Library Legislative Day (NLLD) and will feature guest speakers and a rally on the Capitol to cheer on libraries.

After the rally, participants will uptake their traditional NLLD activities like meeting with elected officials and their staffs. For more information, including how to register and identify your state coordinator to get involved with congressional meetings, visit www.ala.org/lad.

Not attending Library Advocacy Day in person?  The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF) is sponsoring a Virtual Library Advocacy Day. ALTAFF encourages library supporters to call or e-mail their elected officials in Washington and encourage them to vote for libraries. The Virtual Library Advocacy Day website also offers printable promotional items, talking points for advocacy, and directions on how to contact your legislators.
