New Webpage Connects Libraries to Stimulus Updates

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act A new resource is available for public libraries to stay updated about funds and grants available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program. Concise details about the application process for federal funds will not be available until the federal government releases its Federal Notice of Funds later this summer. However, there is a wealth of information available for immediate review, such as American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 101 from the American Library Association. There are also a few steps libraries can take now in preparation to apply for federal grants later this summer, such as applying for a DUNS number and registering at Grants.gov.

Please bookmark the Stimulus Funds for Libraries webpage and check back often as the State Library will update this page as soon as more information regarding stimulus funding and eligibility for libraries becomes available.

TEAMS Award Aims to Increase Student Achievement

Library Media Connection is opening the Gale/Library Media Connection TEAMS (Teachers and Media Specialists Influencing Student Achievement) Award all K-12 public and private schools in the United States. The TEAMS Award recognizes and encourages the critical collaboration between the teacher and media specialist to promote learning and increase student achievement. Nominations will be evaluated based on demonstrated collaboration between media specialists and teachers during the 2007/08 school year, effective techniques that positively impact student learning and achievement, support received from school leadership, and ability for others to replicate this best practice.

Three winners will receive $2,500 in cash as well as $500 worth of Gale products, and a one-year subscription to Library Media Connection, and Educator's Professional Bookshelf, which has an approximate value of $500. The deadline to apply for the TEAMS Award is June 15, 2009. To learn more about the program call (800) 877-4253 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EDT) or visit http://www.galeschools.com/TEAMS.
