Biographical Note:

John Test was born on November 12, 1771, in Salem, New Jersey. He married and moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where their son, Charles, was born. They had one other child named Mary. The family settled in Brookville, Indiana, around 1810. Test served as judge of the 3rd district circuit (1816-1819); member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1823-1827, 1829-1831); and presiding judge of the Indiana circuit court. He moved to Mobile, Alabama, where he continued to practice law for nearly ten years. He returned to Indiana when he became ill and died near Cambridge City on October 9, 1849.

The collection consists of a letter to Ansel Wold of the Joint Committee on Printing regarding biographical and genealogical information on John Test and a transcript of a biographical sketch of John Test written by his son, Charles H. Test.
