Biographical Note:

Ambrose Stanton was born on February 15, 1834, in Fayette County, Indiana. He moved to Missouri in 1857, but returned to Indiana and settled in Indianapolis in 1864. He married Annie E. Nye in 1860. They had three children before her death in 1895. Stanton remarried to Mary V. Ruddell. He served as an Indianapolis city councilman (1867-1869) and Speaker of the State House of Representatives (1869). Stanton was also a member of the Marion County Board of Education, the state Board of Education, and the Indianapolis Art Association. He died on May 25, 1912.
