Biographical Note:

Richard T. Warthin was born about 1846 in Indiana to Edward and Sophia Warthin.  He served as a private in the 76th Indiana Regiment Company B during the Civil War and later worked as a grocer in Greensburg, Decatur County, Indiana.

Scope and Content Note:

This collection contains a letter written by Richard T. Warthin to his sister Drue from Henderson, Kentucky.  It contains information of the guerrilla attack on Col. James C. Gavin and Lieutenant Braden in which Gavin was wounded and Braden was killed.
