IURC APPROVES SETTLEMENT IN FORT WAYNE WATER RATE CASE

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission today approved a settlement agreement between the City of Fort Wayne, the Office of the Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor and General Motors.

In Cause No. 41925, the Commissioners granted an increase in the city’s water rates.  This is the first rate increase since December 1994.

The city of Fort Wayne charges slightly different rates to customers within and without the city’s corporate limits.  The increase means customers inside the city limits who use 5,000 gallons a month will see their monthly bill increase approximately 96-cents. Customers who use 5,000 gallons of water a month and live outside the city limits will see their monthly bill increase by $1.74.

Fort Wayne Water serves more than 72,000 customers within the City of Fort Wayne and surrounding area.

The new rates must be filed with the Commission.  The order is effective immediately.
