There were 45,794 marriages performed in Indiana in 2001.
The most frequent months for marriages were June (6,164 or 13.5%), September (5,045
or 11.0%), July (4,878 or 10.7%), and August (4,560 or 10.0%).

More marriages occurred on Saturday (56.5%) than on any other day of the week. However, civil marriages were
more likely to occur on Friday, while religious marriages were more likely to occur on Saturday.

The average age at marriage for brides and grooms who had never been married before was 24.7 and 26.6 years,
respectively.
For the white population, the average age for bride's first
marriage was 24.2, while the groom's average age for first
marriage was 26.3. For the black population, the average age for the bride's
first marriage was 29.2
and the average age for the groom's first marriage was 30.0. For details, see

Only 48.8 percent of marriages were first marriages for both the bride and the groom; 24.9
percent of marriages were
subsequent to a divorce for both the bride and the groom. In another
24.0 percent of marriages, either the bride or the groom
had been previously divorced. In 5.1 percent of marriages, the bride, the groom, or both had been previously widowed.

In Indiana in 2001, 12.1 percent of marriages were second marriages for both the bride and the groom; 8.0
percent were first marriages for the bride and
second marriages for the groom; 8.8 percent were first marriages for the groom and second marriages for the bride.
