INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2008
Highlights
- There were 10,919 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2008. For additional details, see Table
1a.
- Of the 10,919 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 10,469 (95.9%) were Indiana residents (Table
1b).
- 6,836 (62.6%) of the women were white; 3,250 (29.8%)
were black; 447 (4.1%) were of other races; and 386 (3.5%)
were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 9,412 (86.2%) of the women were non-Hispanic
in origin, and 837 (7.7%) were of Hispanic origin. Ethnicity
was unknown for 670 (6.1%) of the women (Table
1a).
- 9,033 (82.7%) of the women who had a pregnancy
terminated were not married; 1,798 (16.5%) were married.
Marital status was unknown for 88 (0.8%) of the women (Table
1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences -
Table 1a):
- Less than 1% (60) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 5.2% (567) were 15-17 years of age;
- 10.6% (1,152) were 18-19 years of age;
- 34.3% (3,741) were 20-24 years of age;
- 23.9% (2,613) were 25-29 years of age;
- 14.1% (1,542) were 30-34 years of age;
- 8.2% (893) were 35-39 years of age;
- 2.6% (287) were 40 years of age or older; and
- Age was unknown for 0.6% (64).
- In 2008, 10,552 (96.6%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 367 (3.4%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana
occurrences). See Table
