Asthma Child Care Checklist

Give a copy of your child’s Asthma Action Plan to his or her teachers or care givers. Explain how to read the plan, medications and any medical devices your child needs to manage their asthma, and what to do during an asthma attack.
Make sure everyone that cares for your child knows how to give their medication. They need to have easy access to your child’s inhaler.
Supply the child care facility with your child’s prescribed inhaler. Replace expired medications. Notify the school if medications are changed.
Ask your child’s teachers or care givers to use the asthma diary you develop.
Ask to tour the facility to look for any asthma triggers. Talk to your child’s care giver about any problems you find.
Ask about the pesticide policy. Will you receive notice when pesticides are applied? Does the facility use an Integrated Pest Management program?
Ask to see your child’s classroom and any other settings where your child might be throughout the day. Look for asthma triggers that could bother your child’s asthma
Ask about the smoking policy at the early child care setting. Smoking SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED where children will be exposed.
