Many SWCDs have been using websites to present information to the producers, educators and citizens in their district for several years.  The Board of Supervisors for Spencer County Soil and Water Conservation District agreed that a website separate from the County's supported page would be beneficial to promote conservation and education.  Other popular social media was also considered to send out current information and topics.  The Board viewed these possible on-line tools as valuable tools for the district.

In 2013, the SWCD employees began utilizing a Facebook Page to present locally relevant topics to the area and to showcase current activities.  Late in the fall of 2013, the employees began designing and building the stand-alone website.  The goal was that the website would be finished in time to debut the site at the Annual Meeting. After many hours of work, the website was debuted to a large crowd at the 70th Annual Meeting of the Spencer County Soil and Water Conservation District.

While the information on Facebook is more up-to-the-minute, the website includes calendars of upcoming events, interest articles, biographies of the district, and even information on applying to various programs for producers.
