Non-Traditional Partners Key to Porter County Soil & Water’s Growth and Success

The Porter County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is fortunate to be guided by a dynamic board of supervisors who recognize the need for a strong support system based on collaboration with non-traditional partners. For this reason, the board gladly accepted the opportunity to work with the United States Geological Survey(USGS) research team in expanding its nutrient study to include source testing for E-Coli in the East Branch of the Little Calumet River Watershed. The board also welcomed the Program Director for the Porter County Storm Water Department as an associate supervisor. In addition, connections have also been made with the Porter County Highway Department and various non-profit groups including the Indiana Audubon Society and Gabis Arboretum at Purdue Northwest.

The inclusion of non-traditional partners has allowed the District to become a more well-rounded organization capable of bringing new and innovative ideas to rural and urban conservation in Porter County.
